Whether it is in the mountains of Colorado or the lakes in Michigan, it has always been in nature that I have found the energy, direction, and motivation to seek ways to be helpful, both in my work and personal life.
Years ago, I chose to major in nutrition and dietetics because of my love of science and the link between food, health, and wellness. I entered into private practice early in my career and quickly discovered that I had a lot to learn if I was going to ask clients to trust me with their innermost thoughts, feelings, and behaviors around food and the body. I pursued advanced-level training and supervision in eating disorders, and more recently, became a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist with the International Academy of Eating Disorder Professionals. I became hooked on the field, in part due to the need for understanding the role of nutrition in both cause and recovery of eating disorders, and also for the opportunity to work with clients on their “whole person nourishment” as they travel the road to freedom from dieting and disordered eating.
*Full recovery from chronic dieting and/or an eating disorder is possible and worth the effort (half measures do not bring healing).
*Freedom from internal obsession, rumination, and worry about weight, shape and appearance is something that everyone deserves and is worthy of.
*Focusing on beliefs and behaviors rather than body weight and size is the best path to the aforementioned freedom and optimal health.
*In a healthy relationship with food, there is no place for fear, judgment, or guilt. That includes no calorie counting, food weighing, or lengthy list of forbidden foods.
*Intuitive eating, health at every size, and weight inclusive nutrition are more than “buzz words” in my work, but rather the core principles that direct my ongoing education, practice, and support of clients who choose to work with me.
*You, the person reading this and considering entering into a nutrition counseling relationship with me, are the most important person on the team!
